Why we have to write an argumentative essay? (task 8)

As we know, argumentative essay is essay which the content is our argument about something controversial. Therefore, it is important for us to have the ability to write an argumentative essay. There are several factors which force us to have the ability of writing an argumentative essay.

The first is we are students. In our life as a student, we often have a discussion about a particular topic, especially in our lesson or subject in our study. When we have a discussion, we must have our own idea which often crushing other student ideas. That is why we have to acquire the argumentative essay writing skill.

The second factor is by having the skill to write an argumentative essay we can express our feeling or we can share our idea about any topics which we are interested in. If we can share our idea in a correct way, we will get an appreciation in our society. It means that we exist in the society. Why is it so? The basic idea of this statement comes from one of the most famous Latin proverb Cogito Ergo Sum which means we think, so that we exist.

The third factor is we try to criticize a particular topic if we want to write an argumentative essay. Why it is important? Because, when we want to criticize a particular topic, we have to understand the topic well. If I may say, we have to master the topic. It is hard, but if we want to compose an argumentative essay, that is the first step to do. Not only that, but we must consider other ideas of a particular topic and think about the reason why other ideas are wrong. The point of this factor is by writing an argumentative essay; we indirectly increase our knowledge and sharpen our mind.

After knowing the benefits of writing an argumentative essay and we do not try to write it, we will lose out something beneficial for us.

The Day She Went Away (task 7)

It happened several years ago, three years ago exactly. At that time, I was in my second semester. My best friend left me forever, and she will never come back to this world.

The story was started when I was in my first grade of senior high school. I had a friend, her name is Ann. She came from a rich family. She never worried about money and everything that she needed because her parent would fulfill it, but her parent did not give her enough care, love and affection. The consequence was in her first year of senior high school, she started to consume drug. She consumed lexotan, magadon, extacy and many kinds of drug and as time goes by, she started to consume putaw and shabu-shabu. As we know, the abuse of those kinds of drug is really dangerous. One time, her parent knew this fact and sent her to the rehabilitation center. Fortunately, she could leave all of them.

After that, she went to my house often; I did not know why it was so because everything flew naturally. In our chat, she told me that she has changed her attitude but her parent did not do the same thing. Every time she came to my house, my parents were very welcome to her because they knew her background and had great empathy with her. After all, we were so close. People always thought that we were a couple, and they were absolutely wrong. I had a girlfriend and so did she. Even tough we had our own mate, we did many things together, such as billiard, hang out and other fun activities. Sometimes we did double date but it was very rare. Day by day passed happily, but one day everything turned to grey and became so gloomy. Firstly, she often felt something strange in her body. Then she met a doctor, and the doctor told her that her lever was broken because of her bad habit in the past. She was very shocked and I told her that everything was going to be all right; later on I realized that I was wrong. She had a surgery, and only God knew why it went wrong. Maybe God wanted her to be on His side. She left me, her family, and all of people who did love her. God, please, place her in the best place You have.

That is all of my story, I am sorry for not telling you the exact date or something in details because I want to forget her last moment on earth and I just want to remember all the sweet things we have done.

My “Lovely” Wednesday (task 6)

On Wednesday, I usually wake up in the morning at 5 a.m. After that, I do morning prayer. Then, I take a bath and have breakfast together with my family. At 6.20 a.m, I go to campus by motorcycle. Of course, I always prepare everything that I need in campus before I ride my motorcycle. Arrive in campus, I go to the class and read the material given by the lecturer last week, or I read a material which I will face in the class later. At 7 a.m, I join the Seminar on Language Teaching class with Mr. Prayit. The class finishes at 8.45 a.m and I directly jump into the Translation II class with Mrs. Marnie. After that, at 11 a.m, I go to II K.32 to have a Structure II class with Mr. Gunawan and the class ends at 2.30 p.m. It is a nice day, right?
I feel so hungry because we have no leisure time to eat. After the end of the class I go home. There is nothing more interesting than have lunch and take a nap, before that I always do my Dzuhur prayer. Usually, I wake up from my take a nap at 4 p.m, and then I do my Ashar prayer. After that, I always help my mom cleaning the yard. Finish cleaning the yard, I take a bath and enjoy the sunset in my back yard accompanied by a cup of coffee and a bunch of French Fries. Then, at 6 p.m, I go to mosque to do Maghrib prayer and directly continue to the Isya’ prayer. It usually finishes at 8 p.m. Next, I go home and do my homework, if I have homework. If I do not have any homework, I just read any books about the lesson. I usually go to bed at 11 p.m. Before I go to bed, I never forget to pray to God.

A Small Piece Land of Art Left in Town (task 5)

Patangpuluhan is a small village located in the south west of Jogjakarta. It is located in Wirobrajan district, a part of Jogjakarta city. As we know, the location is in the town so that it has flat land with two rivers as the border of the village. The first is Widuri River; it is located on the west side of the village, border on Kasihan Bantul. The second river on the east side and border on Mantrijeron district is called Winongo, it’s so nice, right? Not only the rivers, but Patangpuluhan also has the fertile land, even tough it has no rice field or other field. It can be seen and felt from the green atmosphere around the village.

Surely, people in Patangpuluhan are very welcome to the guest, both domestic and foreign tourist. If you visit this village, you may stay in the hotels spread around the village or if you want to be the part of the village you may stay in the villagers’ house. Of course, it is cheaper than the hotel rate. You may ride in andong or becak even gerobag sapi to go around this village if you want to “save” your energy.

Now, I will show you the main reason why I suggest you to visit the village. Patangpuluhan is heaven for traditional art lovers. If I may ask you, what kind of traditional art do you like? If you say Javanese Dances, you find the right place, and if you say I love Javanese Theatre or we call it Kethoprak, you have chosen the right place to spend your holiday. You can enjoy the performance or just hang out with the players during and after the practice sessions. In other word, we can say that we can find almost all of the traditional art activity in this village like Javanese Dances and Kethoprak, as I said above. The others are traditional Batik production, painting gallery, photo gallery, and many art galleries fulfilled with any kind of handicraft and souvenir. You can purchase things from the gallery as the gift for your friend, colleague or family.

I will never forget to tell you that you can enjoy some traditional food also. Gudeg, as the icon of Jogjakarta, is the most favorite here, but you have to try the other traditional food also. Sego Pecel is not less delicious than Gudeg, so I suggest you to try it. Brongkos is also available here. Therefore, make sure that you enjoy at least one of your lunch in Patangpuluhan by trying this traditional meal. After the sun goes down, you can enjoy so many traditional snacks and beverages in Angkringan. Jahe, wedang uwuh, teh poci, mendoan, ceker, sate usus and many others are available here. It is cheap and absolutely delicious.

Well, there will not be enough time to tell you about Patangpuluhan. Thus, what are you waiting for? Visit Patangpuluhan or you will be one of the most regretful tourist ever.

Who Do You Think She Is? (task 4)

Well, honestly, I am confused when Mr. Chosa asked us to describe our most favorite lecturer. For me myself, all the lecturers who have taught me are my favorite. After thinking about it for several days, finally, I found my favorite lecturer. Initially, she is not my favorite lecturer. Yet, as time goes by, we build a good relationship and for me she is just like my mother in campus because she often helps me to solve any problems that I face.

In general, she has normal height and proportional weight. The complexion is very Asian people type which is light-brown. Then, let’s talk about her face. She has an oval face with short and black wavy hair. Her dark-round and twinkling eyes are covered by glasses. Her plump cheeks look so nice combined with her big nose. Besides, her smiley lips also show her tidy teeth.

When she goes to campus, she often wears cotton trousers and a simple shirt. From those kinds of description, we will know that she is very easy-going, nice, lovely, and of course pretty.

So guys, who do you think she is? A big prize is waiting for you

Behind the Beauty (task 3)

All of us absolutely agree that rainbow is a beautiful meteorological phenomenon. However, I am sure that most of us do not know about something behind the beauty of rainbow.

Rainbow needs a long way of process before it does appear. Basically, the idea is very simple; it is about the sunlight that faces some moisture elements in the sky. Now, I will tell you the process in details. The first is the reflection process of sunlight that actually has white colour. In scientific world, it is called polychromatic character of the sunlight and it consists of seven monochromatic (one wavelength light) light. Then, the light spreads out into seven base colours; usually people call it as a spectrum, those are, in chronological order, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple. Red always appears in the outer side of the rainbow. I have found the explanation of this case in wikipedia.org, the website states that the amount by which light is refracted (reflected) depends upon its wavelength, and hence its colour. Blue light (shorter wavelength) is refracted at a greater angle than red light, but because the area of the back of the droplet has a focal point inside the droplet, the spectrum crosses itself, and therefore the red light appears higher in the sky, and forms the outer colour of the rainbow. The next question must be why it can be spread into seven different colours? Because each monochromatic colour has different frequency, it has different colouring effect result when each of light spreads out and breaks the reflection medium. The medium of sunlight reflection that creates the rainbow is water. It usually takes form in rain. Yet, rainbow is not only caused by rain but it is caused by others form of water also, such as mist, spray, and dew. The rainbow that comes from those elements is commonly seen near waterfalls or fountains. The effect can also be artificially created by the same process as the process of an ordinary rainbow in the sky, but this phenomenon usually can be seen only in a sunny day.


After being reflected by water and/or other forms, finally, sunlight will show the combination of seven spectrum colours in a form of a multicoloured arc, with red on the outer part of the arch and violet on the inner section of the arch. Thus, people call it as a rainbow.

The Bloody Guitar (task 2)

it was long time ago in my lovely gazebo

Why it is called bloody guitar? Because I had to pass a long and winding road in order to get the guitar. It’s bloody and full of tears.

The guitar is an acoustic guitar. The colour is dark brown, why is it so? Because it uses Mahoney woods material. Just for additional information, the Mahoney wood is the best wood for guitar production. It has six strings. When I pick the strings, it will produce a soft-clear and touchy sound. You have to bring your own tissue when I play the guitar, because I am sure that you will spread out your tears because of its touchy sound. On the first four frets, I sticked four stickers which formed the word KURT. It came from the front name of my favourite guitarist who is Kurt Cobain, the vocalist and guitarist of Nirvana. In addition, a fret is a raised portion on the neck of a stringed instrument that extends generally across the full width of the neck. On most modern western instruments, frets are metal strips inserted into the fingerboard (usually, people called it the neck of the guitar). In my bloody guitar, I don't give any accesories because I love it just the way it is.

Now, for any sentimental reasons, even though I have bought a new and a better guitar than my bloody guitar, I still love to play my bloody guitar because of its sound and of course its history. Just like when we have a relationship, the last is the best but the first is unforgetable.

Ngobaran Beach (task 1)

Are you a beach lover? Have you ever heard Ngobaran beach? Ngobaran beach is located 55 kilometres to the south east of Jogja. This beach is not really well-known, actually it is not only the one of the nice beaches in Jogja but it has uniqueness also. The uniqueness is even though it is located in Jogja, which Islam is the majority, we can found a Pura, it is a place for Hindus to pray and do some religion activities. Not only that, but we can enjoy the reef and the white sand also. If you are seafood lovers, it is like a heaven for you. We can buy any kinds of seafoods, such as fish,shrimp, lobsters, octopus and many others in a cheap price directly from the fishermen. The seafoods are fresh because the seafoods are taken from the sea just in time. So, what are you waiting for? Go there and enjoy everything.
